A country bumpkin engagement shoot in yorkshire
Jak & Maddie’s engagement shoot in North Newbald felt like a proper slice of East Yorkshire—open space, quiet charm, and skies that stayed firmly overcast all afternoon.
I headed over early and spent a good hour just driving around the area, scouting out spots. North Newbald has no shortage of great little pockets, but it’s the open fields around the village that really stood out—simple, understated, and perfect for what we had planned.
The flat, diffused light actually worked in our favour. No harsh shadows, no fighting the sun—just clean, even light that kept everything feeling natural and easy.
They leaned fully into a country and western vibe, and it suited them straight away. Nothing felt staged. Jak winding Maddie up, Maddie laughing it off, both of them completely relaxed—it made my job pretty straightforward.
We kept things loose, moving between different spots in the fields and stopping whenever something felt right. No strict plan, no overcomplicating it. As usual, the in-between moments ended up being the strongest ones.
They’re getting married this August, and while I won’t be there for the wedding, it was great to capture this part of it. A bit more low-key, a bit more them, before everything ramps up.
Jak & Maddie—thanks for trusting me with it.
